Every quilt tells a story. At least I seem to have a story/memory attached to all my quilts! My favorite quilt and one of my favorite memories is the blue swirled bargello quilt I made for my husband, David. At the time, we were just dating. We had become very good friends, and I felt like I could share with him my love of quilting and sewing. He didn’t laugh or think I was crazy. In fact, he even let me use a huge room in his house as my quilting/sewing studio! I couldn’t believe it! So, to show him my appreciation and my “like” for him, I told him I would make him a quilt for his birthday.
We both went to fabric stores to pick out the fabric. That was a challenge in & of itself. But, I’m so glad we took our time until we found just the right gradation of color and fabric we both loved. I think we probably went to around 4 fabric/quilting stores. We even looked out of state in KY. Finally, we found the gradation in color we were looking for!
I pieced the quilt faster than I thought I would. It took several months, but that wasn’t too bad. I then decided to quilt it myself on my domestic sewing machine. Well, that was an adventure to say the least. I persisted and was able to get maybe 1/3 of it quilted before I put it away never to see the light of day again for about 4 years! Actually, it was probably longer than that.
Enter my new Gammill longarm quilting machine and what quilt did I have stored away that I could not wait to quilt on it? You guessed it! And, it quilted up like a dream! David and I had fun choosing a quilting pattern for the sash and border. We had to purchase a couple different patterns, but we came up with one we both loved. And, I was able to surprise him with it when he came home from his annual skiing vacation with the guys! So many good memories and a beautiful quilt for a wonderful husband!
